for a Fact-based Worldview on December 14th, at 9.00-10.00 CET

For a fact-based worldview

When Gapminder has tested the public on basic facts on global trends, proportions and development, most people answer wrongly. In this eye-opening presentation, Anna will dismantle common misconceptions that shape our worldview, by visualizing data for some selected questions using Gapminder tools to show what the world really looks like, in a way that everyone can understand. Anna will also present Factfulness, methods and tricks to help you get a more fact-based worldview.

Three takeaways from the webinar:

  1. Most people are wrong about the world in the same way as you are.
  2. You probably miss out on important markets since the world doesn’t look like you think.
  3. I will give you some easy tricks to understand the world and make better decisions for your business.

Factfulness – “The book that is highly recommended by Bill Gates and Barack Obama”

When asked simple questions about global trends ― what percentage of the world’s population live in poverty; why the world’s population is increasing; how many girls finish school ― we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess teachers, journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers.

Factfulness offers a radical new explanation of why this happens. It reveals the ten instincts that distort our perspective ― from our tendency to divide the world into two camps (usually some version of us and them) to the way we consume media (where fear rules) to how we perceive progress (believing that most things are getting worse). Our problem is that we don’t know what we don’t know, and even our guesses are informed by unconscious and predictable biases.

“The best statistics you have ever seen”

Gapminder’s TED Talk is one of the most-watched TED Talks and is titled “The Best Statistics You Have Ever Seen,” presented by Hans Rosling. The TED Talk is entertaining and delivered in a highly educational manner, ensuring that everyone comprehends the statistics and learns how they work, so you don’t succumb to global stress. Here’s an exclusive opportunity for EGN to host a lecture by Anna Rosling.

12 short factual questions

Before the lecture, Anna has included 12 short factual questions that take a few minutes to answer. Participation is completely anonymous, and the answers will be presented during the lecture on December 14th.

Times adjusted for time zones:

09:00 AM – 10:00 AM Central European time (CET)
10:00 AM – 11.00 AM Helsinki time (EET)
3:00 PM – 4:00 PM Bangkok time (ICT)
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM Hong Kong time (HKT)
